Gifts in Kind

A heartfelt Thank You to everyone – donors and volunteers – who supported the work of the Volunteer Response Team which was set up at the start of the lockdown to channel the public’s concern for homeless and vulnerable people.

Together, in the five months from late March to mid-August 2020, we did something amazing in supporting more than 1,000 homeless and vulnerable people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Sheffield. The support received from businesses, local communities and individuals was unprecedented:

  • Organisations including Sewa Day, Open Kitchens, EverSo, FareShare, Bombay Sweet Centre, Pork Farms, Morrisons and others provided meals, foodstuffs and other essential supplies
  • At our Training Centre in Nottingham, professional volunteer chefs cooked around 20,000 meals for delivery to homeless people in Framework hostels and vulnerable people in the community
  • Gifts in Kind from supporters enabled us to provide families, individuals and services with toiletries, bedding and towels
  • A team of volunteer drivers made weekly deliveries of meals and other essential supplies including PPE, and mobile phones to maintain contact with people who were self-isolating.

The following comment – one of dozens from front line workers – indicates the life-saving impact of what was done:

“A very high risk client who needs to self isolate due to being HIV positive was overwhelmed with the service. I believe the food provision makes compliance with HIV treatment possible. Please pass on my gratitude to the providers of this excellent, potentially life-saving service.”

Sharewear Clothing Scheme

We are proud to be working in partnership with Sharewear Clothing Scheme, who are the official provider of clothing and bedding to our services across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. Sharewear’s mission is to alleviate clothing poverty through the redistribution of both pre-loved and pre-consumer clothing waste and we at Framework are very pleased to benefit from this crucial work.
