Mental Health Awareness Week: support that meets you where you’re at
Mental Health Awareness Week is a time to talk openly about mental wellbeing and to highlight support that genuinely works for people. Across Nottinghamshire and in the city, Framework’s service Wellness in Mind is helping over 2000 adults each year access timely, flexible mental health support in a way that feels human and easy to reach.
A welcoming place to talk
Wellness in Mind supports adults experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties such as depression, general anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, or low wellbeing. These challenges are common, but many people delay seeking help because services can feel complicated or hard to access.
The aim of Wellness in Mind is simple: to offer a safe, non-clinical space where people can talk openly and start finding ways to feel better. There are no long waiting lists and no complicated eligibility requirements. Support is person centred and shaped around what each individual needs.
Flexible support without barriers
What makes Wellness in Mind different is its flexibility. People can choose how they want to engage, whether that is online, over the phone or face to face in the community. Appointments are not always necessary, with drop-in assessments available at the Wellbeing Hub in Nottingham City and other locations across the county since December 2024.
Self-referrals are accepted, meaning people can reach out directly without going through another service. In practice, this approach works. Almost everyone who contacts Wellness in Mind through the website is offered support within just a few days, and anyone contacting the helpline or attending an in-person drop-in receives support on the same day.
“Great easy access to service and quick response which makes this service priceless. I felt no judgments were made which is so important”
Building confidence and coping skills
When someone contacts Wellness in Mind, they have a private conversation with a trained adviser who takes time to understand what is happening in their life. Together, they explore practical next steps that feel manageable and relevant.
Support may include guided self-help, mindfulness and meditation, practical coping strategies, problem solving, or access to one-to-one or group support.
Alongside professional support, the service also offers a volunteer-led befriending programme. This offer was created and is coordinated by a volunteer, shaped directly by the experiences of people using the service, giving it an authenticity that helps clients feel truly understood.
“The Service has been lovely and has been tailored to my needs. The information/techniques given have been helpful and I can see how much I’ve improved in the time I’ve been supported.”
This Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness Week reminds us that support does not have to be complex to be effective. Sometimes, the most important thing is being able to talk to someone who listens, without judgement, at a time and in a way that feels right.
If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental wellbeing, Wellness in Mind is there to help. No waiting lists. No unnecessary barriers. Just support that meets you where you are.
