Building Better Futures: five years of transforming lives
In April 2021, as Framework marked its 20th anniversary, we launched the Building Better Futures campaign. This initiative set out to raise £3 million over five years to help address homelessness across the East Midlands. Our goal was to build or renovate 200 modern, self-contained homes that would provide former rough sleepers with safety, dignity and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Five years later, and as we celebrate our 25th year, we are proud to announce that this goal has not only been achieved but exceeded. Thanks to the commitment and generosity of our supporters, the campaign has raised £3,065,623.27. This milestone reflects more than financial success. It represents stability restored, opportunities created and the promise of a new start for hundreds of people.
Your support helped us to:
- Develop 52 properties
- Build and renovate brand-new self-contained homes
- House 369 former rough sleepers
A home as the foundation for change
Behind each home created through this campaign is a personal story. Lisa is one of the many individuals whose lives have been transformed. After 25 years of addiction and a serious conviction, Lisa left custody determined to change her future. With no home to return to, she spent seven months sleeping rough in Nottingham.
Everything changed when Framework’s Street Outreach Team found her. Through patience and consistent support, trust grew. She was offered a hostel room, which provided safety, stability and space to recover. The turning point came when she was finally given a flat of her own. For Lisa, this home represented far more than a building. It was the first real foundation she had ever had.
“Having my own home has given me the safety and stability I so desperately needed. For the first time in my life, I now have hope for the future.”
Stories like Lisa’s highlight the transformative power of a safe place to live.
Looking ahead
Although having a home is a critical milestone, it is only the beginning of a person’s journey. Many people who have experienced homelessness have lived through long periods of crisis that limited their opportunities to learn, explore interests or build confidence.
To support people beyond the initial step into accommodation, Framework will introduce a new Engagement and Enrichment Worker role in 2026. This role will help residents explore new interests, develop practical and creative skills, connect socially and rediscover purpose. Activities will include arts, culture, sport, gardening and everyday learning, tailored to individual needs and aspirations.
Thanks to the achievements of the Building Better Futures campaign, people now have roofs over their heads. With continued support, we can help them build meaningful and fulfilling lives beneath those roofs.
