A flat and a job puts life back on track

Jay (named changed to preserve anonymity) is a single mother with one child.  When she was referred to Framework she was living with her parents but their relationship was difficult.  She needed a two bed property for herself and her daughter and was willing to look for properties both with housing associations and private rentals. She had been working part time but unfortunately had lost her job.

Framework’s support worker helped Jay source several private sector properties and investigated help with her deposit and first month’s rent.  She was also given practical help with her CV and moral support making applications for work, as Jay knew this would help her secure a property.

Jay was able to secure a new job but as it was only 16 hours a week this was not sufficient for the Job Centre who required her to do another eight hours job search. When she said childcare was an issue it was suggested she extend her daughter’s childcare however she could not afford this.  So her support worker asked her new employer if they could increase Jay’s hours and they did so as she was such a good worker.

There were several satisfactory outcomes for Jay: she found a suitable property; arrangements were made to pay her deposit for her; though she is now working nearly full time she is still able to collect her daughter directly from school so she has no need for childcare. Jay feels a lot happier and thanked Framework for all their help.
