The problem

We are facing an unacceptable rough sleeping crisis in the UK. More people are sleeping rough in Nottingham than at any time in nearly 20 years. Typically Framework's specialist Street Outreach Team are finding more than 30 people living this way – in doorways, tents and alleyways; even in skips, abandoned public toilets and air conditioning ducts.

Sadly they are not alone. We are aware that many more are risking their lives in communities across Nottinghamshire and beyond.

A new approach

To respond to this crisis we are undertaking a major extension of our work to help rough sleepers to be paid for by our supporters rather than by any local authority contract:

  • establishing a new outreach service based in Mansfield to help rough sleepers in Nottinghamshire where there is currently no local authority-funded provision
  • enhancing the work of our existing Street Outreach Team in Nottingham which is funded by the City Council.

We are starting now and the service will be fully operational by April next year. It will form a major part of the work being carried out by a number of agencies to address the significant rise in homelessness.

How to help

The annual cost of the new service will be in the region of £230,000. We know that, above all, our supporters want us to help get people off the streets so we hope they will respond generously to our Off the Streets emergency fundraising appeal.

You can support Off the Streets in a number of ways...
