What is volunteering?

The Oxford dictionary says that a volunteer is:-

“a person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it”:

Why volunteer?

There are lots of reasons why you might volunteer with Framework, such as:

  • enhance your CV and job prospects
  • look at new career development
  • put something back into the community
  • develop your personal skills and build your confidence
  • do something useful and rewarding with your spare time
  • help with an educational course
  • meet new people
  • do something totally different and challenging
  • to have that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

What is Framework’s commitment to volunteering?

Framework values the work volunteers do and the contribution they make to the organisation’s success. We treat our volunteers:

  • with respect and value their Human Rights
  • within the principles of equal opportunities
  • with regard for their individual needs
  • with concern for their Health & Safety
  • within legal and regulatory boundaries.

Framework will offer its volunteers the opportunity to work within the voluntary sector, develop their skills and make a contribution to its work with service users . The contribution made by volunteers will be supported by supervision and training.

In return, Framework expects its volunteers to:

  • carry out agreed tasks in accordance with a volunteer agreement
  • show a commitment to the work of the organisation
  • treat service users with dignity and respect
  • follow the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • maintain confidentiality
  • be aware of and follow the Health & Safety and fire procedures.

What type of volunteering does Framework do?

Framework has been developing a selection of different volunteering placements throughout its services.  The types of volunteer placements we currently have are:

  • Befriender and Mentor Support
  • Gardener and Handy-Person
  • Befriending and Mentoring
  • Kitchen Assistant
  • Service User Participation
  • Mentor Plus+
  • Office and Reception Support
  • Tutor or Tutor’s Assistant
  • Music Exchange Shop Assistant
  • Painter and Decorator
  • Fundraising Assistant
  • And lots more to come!!!

Training available for all volunteers

Framework is committed to helping volunteers develop their skills and knowledge and will provide both in-house and external training courses. Currently there are opportunities for volunteers to undertake free accredited training at NVQ Level 2 in:- Health and Social Care, Information Advice and Guidance (IAG), Painting and Decorating and Business Administration. An assessor from Key Skills will observe the volunteer in their placement and tailor a learning plan to their specific needs.

What next?

If you are interested in volunteering with us you will need to decide what type of volunteer role you would like to do and geographical area you would like to be based.  If you need more information on our Volunteer Job Roles, you can request a pack from our Volunteer Coordinator see details below. Please be aware that because of the high number volunteers at Framework we cannot guarantee placement for everyone who applies and that the process can take time. All you need to do is download an application form fill it in and send it off, we will do the rest.
