Service description

SVP Ozanam House is a hostel for single homeless young women aged 16 – 25.


Learning opportunities

• Person-centred care planning, monitoring and review

• Facilitation of daily living skills including income maximisation and budgeting

• Working with service users with moderate to severe learning disabilities and complex needs

• Experience of providing support to people in their own homes to enhance their independence

• Experience of advocating on behalf of service users with other service providers and organisations

• Multi-agency and partnership working

• Practice within the principles of anti-discrimination, anti-oppressive practice and equal opportunities

• Working as part of a team to provide a high quality service

• Working with service users with autism/Asperger’s syndrome

• Assessment, risk assessment and management

• Supporting employment and educational opportunities

• Facilitate opportunities to maintain and develop existing relationships

• Facilitate opportunities to enhance self-esteem and confidence

• Skill teaching/facilitation work to assist individuals to reach skill levels sufficient to enable moving on to more independent living

• Knowledge of tenancy issues, housing management and move on support

• Duty of care

• Review care plans

• Knowledge of the needs of homeless people

• Report writing

• Dealing with new referrals

• Issues around child protection and duty of care, implications of the Children Acts and safeguarding procedures

• The opportunity to work with young service users who use drugs and alcohol

• Understanding Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, Supporting People and Care Standards

• Networking with other professional agencies, both statutory and voluntary sectors

• Evaluating outcomes via monthly quality monitoring

• Opportunity to work in a team as well as development of individual working
