Homelessness may be no laughing matter, but that hasn’t stopped a leading Nottingham comedy club from supporting local charity Framework.

The Glee Club, based at Castle Wharf, Canal Street, has named Framework as its 2017 charity of the year, and plans to raise several thousands of pounds to support homeless and vulnerable people.

The club, located inside the iconic British Waterways building, will support the charity by encouraging its customers to add £1 to their booking. This pound, in its entirety, will be given to Framework to help with the important work the charity does in the region.

A special benefit night will be held later in the year and the club are also developing social opportunities for people living in Framework accommodation.

The money raised will be used to help homeless people, prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place, and fund new opportunities and experiences for excluded people.

Tom Hunt, Marketing Manager for the Glee, said:

Homelessness is a serious issue and one that is clear for all to see. At The Glee we have made a decision to choose one charity for each of our clubs across the country so we can try to make a real difference during 2017. By asking customers to donate just £1 when they book tickets we hope to raise thousands. Every week we have upwards to 500 people attending our comedy nights. We hope that they will choose to donate to Framework and help support the great work the charity does.”

Chris Senior, Fundraising Manager at Framework, added:

It is said that laughter can be the best solution to problems and in this case it’s the literal truth.  Thank you to everyone at The Glee Club: we are most grateful for this commitment to support our work in tackling homelessness – alongside a growing number of local businesses and organisations.”
