Sleep Out volunteers urged to show Robin Hood spirit

Framework will be holding its annual Big Sleep Out on the evening of Saturday, November 21, at Sneinton Market Square, Nottingham.

The event, which raised more than £30,000 last year, will take on a medieval Robin Hood theme thanks to a little help from event sponsors The Nottingham Building Society. Framework’s Big Sleep Out, which can trace its history back to 1992, sees hardy volunteers swap the creature comforts of home with a sleeping bag, plastic sheeting and cardboard box - all to raise sponsorship money from friends, family and colleagues.

Although a serious event in aid of a serious cause, Framework’s Big Sleep Out has traditionally been a fun event, and this year will be no different. Participants will be welcomed to a Robin Hood themed event and will be encouraged to decorate their boxes accordingly in the now traditional Box Factor competition.

The Big Sleep Out is the most popular event in our annual calendar for two reasons: it helps raise money for a very important cause and is also great fun. It is a real family event and always has a great atmosphere. Taking part in the Big Sleep Out is truly an experience to remember and I look forward to welcoming people to this year’s event.

Sarah Cross, Event Organiser

We’re extremely proud to be sponsoring the Big Sleep Out for a third year running. Over the last five years, we have raised close to £50,000 for Framework and volunteered hundreds of hours to help local services. We believe that everyone should have a roof over their head so we’re really pleased to be supporting an event which not only financially supports the work that Framework does but also raises awareness of this issue. Once again, we will be supporting this event with our very own ‘Team Nottingham’ of participants. All participants, who are requested to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship money, are faced with the challenge of building a cardboard shelter for the night. They are also urged to wrap up warm and bring a hat.

The event, which begins at 7.45pm and closes at 7am, is open to all ages, but under18s must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of up to five under 18s must be accompanied by one adult.

Registration costs £10 per adult and £5 per young person aged 5-16. To sign up or find out more click here.

Event History
Framework’s Big Sleep Out can trace its history back to 1992, when former Macedon Chief Executive Christine Russell led a dedicated band of volunteer rough sleepers in Market Square. In later years the event moved to St Peter’s Church, in Nottingham City Centre. In 2009 it moved to the car park of Framework’s old head office in Beech Avenue, before it moving to the Capital FM Arena for the first time in 2010. The sleep out moved to its new home in Sneinton Market in 2013.
