Framework attended a major national conference yesterday to deliver a master class session on setting up and managing a residential lettings agency.

Jon Leighton, Operations Manager for Community Based Services, and Team Leader Jon Wood led the 90 minute session at Homeless Link's Annual Under One Roof Conference in Hinckley, about the experiences of the Smartmove service – a residential lettings agency set up by Framework to help service users access the private rental sector.

Twenty delegates from housing associations across the country attended the session, which focussed on what others could learn from Framework’s experiences in the sector.

Jon Leighton explained: “We all know that there isn’t enough social housing out there, and that this situation is unlikely to change anytime soon. This means vulnerable people must increasingly rely on private landlords for accommodation – sometimes with very negative results for both parties. The team at Smartmove have worked hard over the past few years to change that dynamic.

“Smartmove, launched in 2012 with support from Crisis, is a service designed to manage the relationship between tenants and landlords and develop successful relationships between the two. We are really proud of what we have achieved so far and were delighted to have this opportunity to share our experiences and learning with other people.

“I hope the delegates who attended are able to use the things they learned to help vulnerable people in their communities.”
